Typewriter Typestyle Classification System

This is the latest version of Dr Phil Bouffards Bouffard's Typewriter Typestyle Classification System. This download is mirrored on the ASQDE Home Page.

To download this application you must be a current member of the Australian Society of Forensic Document Examiners (ASFDE), the American Society of Questioned Document Examiners (ASQDE) or the American Board of Forensic Document Examiners (ABFDE).

You will need a password to unzip the file. The password can be obtained from Lee Miller at webeditor@asqde.org.

Dr. Phillip Bouffard's computer based Typewriter Classification System was updated in March, 1999. This is the premiere computer based typewriter classification system. Now with over 4560 typefont designs classified. Contact Dr. Bouffard for additional information at pdbouffard@aol.com.

Dr. Bouffard's program references the Haas Typewriter Atlas for viewing the typefaces. If you do not have a Haas Atlas, you may contact Lee Miller or for on-line assistance in obtaining the particular strike-ups via e-mail.

If you have a previous version of this program, overwrite it with this update. If you are loading this program for the first time, create a subdirectory called C:\type. The command for running the program is: main.exe. This is a DOS based program, although you can create an icon and launch the program from Windows 3.x, Windows 95 or Windows 98 or Windows NT.


Questioned Document Reference Article Collection Index V 6.0™

Formerly known as QDAD™, QDRAC is now being maintained by the FBI Laboratory Document Unit. This index can be searched on-line by Forensic Document Examiners (password holders) by accessing the ASQDE site. It is the sixth upgrade. Information on obtaining hardcopies of the articles referenced in the QDRAC Index can be found on the first document of the QDRAC Index. If you have additional questions regarding the request procedure, contact Hector Maldonado, Administrator.

Document Examination Article

This article was presented by Chris Anderson to a Fraud Prevention Conference and has since been published in the July 1994 issue of NSW Law Society Journal and in the New Zealand Law News in September 1994.

The article gives an overview of the field of forensic document examination, its scope and limitations and covers the principals of signature and handwriting identification. It also lists some of the other areas of expertise of the document examiner. Lastly it looks at the qualifications of the document examiner in Australia and New Zealand.
